Making sure that your camera and lens combined are stable when photographing can be hard to do, especially when you can't get your hands on a tripod.
Below is a list of solutions you can use to tackle this matter.
Hold Your Camera and Lens The Right Way
Here is how you can do it properly: hold your camera firmly with your right hand while your left hand stationed on your camera's lenses.
Compose Your Body Posture
With your camera in hand, keep your arms close to your body. Have the camera gripped well and lean it against your forehead firmly.
Press onto the shutter button in a smooth manner. This will help avoid a turning or twisting force that will affect the results of the pictures you take.
Use The Autofocus Feature
The autofocus feature will help you give more attention to camera stabilization compared to focusing the lenses.
The Battery Grip Accessory
The battery grip accessory which is available only with a few cameras provides a shutter release button. This will help bring about a steadier vertical photography.
Examples of cameras with the battery grip accessory is the Canon EOS 40D, EOS 50D, and EOS 50D Mark II.
Conducting Photography While Seated and Standing
If you capture an image and have to be seated, place your elbows on your knees before you capture the image. Also, you will need to straighten your back as you are doing this.
Having these done, you will create a stable platform for your camera and lenses.
When you conduct a photo shoot while you are standing, lean against something tough or strong enough to hold you and keep you in position.
Have your legs straightened and make sure to balance yourself well.
